We had a huge black workhorse with one eye named Bud. He was quite gentle. We also had a very fancy buckskin mare who was quite mean...only my grandfather could handle her. Legend had it she bit her first owner's knee cap off...but she was beautiful! The daughter of "Buckskin Joe"--a very famous bronc in Wyoming. Once I saw a dandy, a kid who wanted to work on the ranch, try to ride her. He got up in the saddle--but then her ears went back and we had a rodeo! Wasn't but a moment after he hit the ground that my grandfather handed him his hat and asked him to leave the ranch. You see Grandpa didn't give him permission to ride her--he broke the rules and could not be trusted on the ranch.
